Our commitment to, positively, influence the livelihood of our communities is a growing concern on day-to-day basis in our business strategy.

Through our high performance, advance and robust networks, we supported and shall continue to support our communities. We will use the latest communications technology to fulfill the needs and satisfy the ambitions of all individuals, rich and poor, young and old and enable them to act and interact with people around the globe. As we move forward, we are always optimistic and full of hope, as we look forward that this paper will allow us brief you with the quality of initiatives and contributions that we offer to our community. How we contributed? What are future plans to sustain and continue these contributions? .
Our main objective is to create our beautiful world, which assures that telecommunications services do not mean just talking over telephones or strengthening social relations between individuals. It also plays a key role in achieving economic development, facilitation of business transactions and saving time and efforts.
While we are pleased to present to you the fruits of our projects in the area of social responsibility, we are very much grateful to the Sudanese people, with their unlimited support only we reached this degree of success and leadership. 
During the past recent years, we exerted a lot of efforts to review and develop the methodology framework of our operations with respect to our social responsibility. This included the establishment of a centralized management of social responsibility projects for the whole Group, with departments in each and every operating Company. This has resulted in promoting our initiatives to the communities among which we operate. 
At the heart of all these initiatives and successes, stand talented and dedicated representatives of Zain staff. Actually, being an employee of " Zain" is itself a badge of honor. Our extended family and distinguished workforce deliver the best performance in telecommunications industry in the Middle East. 
Most prominent projects offered by Zain in the area of social responsibility. Before reviewing axes of social responsibility, we shall highlight the most important services offered and likely to be offered by Zain to the community to facilitate communication among people in various parts of the Sudan. In addition to this, our products and services aim at linking families and friends, helping companies to meet their needs, and bringing the various parts of the world together, regardless of their geographic location. 
Further to our commitment to continue making communication affordable with reasonable prices and accessible to all, we continue to provide innovative services in order to bridge the “digital gap" between those who have potential technological capabilities and those who do not have. We are proud to offer care and support to our customers, allowing them to have access to the latest technologies. 
Zain contributions to the community concentrate in four major areas, namely: - 

1- Education 
2- Health 
3- Community Development 
4- Preservation of the environment.


Zain (Sudan) pays a special concern to Education through its Department of Social Responsibility. Because Zain is certain that human beings are the focus of development and evolution, it is extending endless resources all over the states of Sudan assuring its strong interest in building promising generations capable of driving the wheels of development.​

School Dressing

Sudanese Mobile phone Company (Zain) realized the importance of education, so it distributed school uniforms, pens and notebooks to students at various schools in the states of Darfur, South Kordofan, Blue Nile, Khartoum, Northern and Gezira; focusing on orphan pupils. Annual beneficiaries of the project amount to more than 200 thousand students.​

School Seating

Projects worth more than four million pounds were carried out for seating 30 thousand students in the states of North and South Kordofan and Darfur five states, Blue Nile, Kassala, Gedaref, and Gezira state. The objective of this project is the continuity of Education in these areas and the provision of basic education requirements. This project was very much welcomed by the people of the different regions who appreciated the role of Zain in promoting the education process.​

Building of Schools and Classrooms

In its efforts to support education in various states of Sudan, Zain launched the initiative (Zain Schools). Ten schools in various states of Sudan were built. In addition to these ten schools; classrooms, libraries in universities and colleges, computer labs in more than twenty colleges and universities and high school, computer labs for the Unions of people of Special Needs such as National Federation of the Deaf were either built or provided with computers.​


Health represented the essence of the company's interest. Through the implementation of important projects and initiatives, Zain assured its keenness to repay part of its obligations towards its community and honors their confidence. The Sudanese Mobile Telephone Company ( Zain), with its distinctive Logo, became a genuine partner in the development of health and an essential element in every hospital, health facility and medical conference. Here are some of the initiatives of Zain in supporting health:​​

Cherkela Hospital ​

Zain assumed responsibility of building Cherkela Hospital for safe Mother and Childhood in Northern Kordofan, at a cost of 545 thousand U.S. dollars to provide medical care for more than five thousand families as the first of its kind in the region.​


MRI Unit​

Zain has signed an agreement to supply latest devices of MRI to the state of Red Sea. The value of the device was more than 5 million Sudanese pounds. The device shall provide good services to the citizens of the state and helps to speed diagnosis, and shall contribute to ease the pressure on the center and reduce the cost of treatment.


Mobile clinics for the Council of Development of nomads in Darfur ​

Zain donated for the establishment of three, fully equipped, mobile clinics, for Darfur region. These clinics were dedicated to serving 10 000 nomads and pastoralists (according to their lifestyle) in areas lacking the basic health care. They providing services for nomadic and non- nomadic people of the region.​


Support State and Federal Hospitals​

The Sudanese Mobile Telephone Company ( Zain) supported the hospitals of Arriseris , Damazin , Singa , Sennar Hassahissa , Maheriba , Medani , Shandi, Atbara , Tabat , Elhosh, El Fasher , Kadugli , Dongola , Old Halfa , Kosti and other hospitals with various medical instruments and equipments. 
The Company also supported Omdurman Hospital with a device for scanning bones, and medical equipments for Khartoum People Hospital, and Immunity Plant to Skin Hospital, Khartoum. In addition to sponsoring of a number of medical conferences that contributed to the development of the Health Sector, health awareness campaigns in the areas of heart diseases, breast cancer and vaccination campaigns for children and others.


Blood donation Campaigns​

The staff of the Sudanese Mobile Telephone Company ( Zain) organized blood donation campaign for patients, in honor of the celebration of the World Day for blood donation , where the company's employees lined up in response to the community's appeal for blood donation. They have sent a strong message that the Company and its employees are always in the front lines of supporting their community, a policy which was adopted right from the date of its establishment till now.​


Our commitment to the environment is clearly Reflected in our business activities through the conversion of the scratch vouchers for Zain mobile from plastic cards to paper slips , as well as shifted 232 network stations operations to hybrid power system, which reduced the consumption by less than 40 %, and deployment of solar power systems in some stations which led to the reduction of fuel consumption by 100%. It is worth mentioning that the Company is annually celebrating the universal month of the Environment by launching and sponsoring environmental care programs aiming at raising awareness by environmental issues with the participation of Zain employees in cleaning the Botanical Garden in Mogran and cleaning the Sunut Forest (Sunut Reservoir). 
The management of Zain have strong believe in the importance of combating desertification and drought and increase citizens' awareness of the importance of environmental issues. Accordingly, Zain launched the project of student tree that aim at planting one million tree over a span of five years in all states of the Sudan, along with raising the awareness of students with the importance of the presence of trees in the surrounding environment. 
200 trees were planted in the States of Gezira, Kassala, River Nile, White Nile and Khartoum during the year (2012). In the year 2013 a partnership with the National Service was established and resulted in planting 200 000 trees by national service conscripts in all states of Sudan..

Disabled

Because they represent an important segment of society, the Sudanese Mobile phone Company (Zain) paid a special attention to the disabled through the initiatives and contributions reflected in the prominent design of services for the disabled with a reduction of 50% in value of text messaging and voice services, and the launch of laboratory for training deaf on the methods of communication, Paralympics (Olympics tournament for Disabled) in collaboration with the Dall Group to get them to the Olympics in Brazil in 2016, Also support was given to the Organization of Bin Jumooh for people with special needs and other initiatives to the disabled segment.​

Water projects in different States of Sudan​

Access to drinking water is still a challenge in some areas of Sudan. According to UNICEF estimates, 40% of the population in Sudan have no access to safe drinking water. The Millennium Development Goals aims at reducing the proportion of the population who do not have access to sustainable sources of safe drinking water and basic sanitation requirements. It is well known that water is essential to maintain stability, fight poverty, prevent diseases and ensure food security. 
Lack of access to clean water is a major factor in child mortality - Sudan has a mortality rate of 103 deaths per 1,000 live births, a rate approaching twice the global average of 57 deaths per 1,000 live births. To address this urgent need Zain Sudan in the year 2012, drilled 10 wells in the Red Sea state, aiming at improving the lives of 16,750 persons. Solar energy is used to pump the water out of these wells. Zain established a complete water plant for the village of Morkah in the Northern State and 10 water pumps in the State of North Kordofan and an electric generator for the water plant in the village of Kukaya Almonjur in West Darfur and water tower in the village of Wagar in Kassala State and implemented Alajafil water project in North Kordofan, which aims to improve the lives of 10 000 people in the regions.​

Graduate Training​

Because Zain is aware of its leading role in the training and development of young people to enjoy a working life, especially with the increasing number of graduates, the company launched in October 2009, a full year graduate training Initiative in the Department of Customer Services. Zain is keen to sustain this initiative by adopting the highest degree of transparency and equality. The total number of beneficiaries from the project is 3000 graduates. Zain is keen to allocate, annually, a significant proportion for people of special needs.​

Family and Child Protection Unit​

Zain has been sponsoring and supporting Family and Child Protection since 2009 in partnership with the Family and Child Protection Police. The partnership contract include technical and medical support, awareness and training. The technical support represent the use of information and communications technology to establish Zain integrated information Center and provide the servers for the interconnection between three police units in in the capital, as well as to support the operation and raise the efficiency of the toll-free number (9696) to receive inquiries and complaints, with talks outnumbered the 200 thousand conversation since its inception in February 2009. 
The health support is to provide medical instruments, devices and equipment, especially for the processing of Forensic medicine clinics of the Family and child Protection Unit,. and support awareness programs and campaigns across Zain advertising , through multiple channels of contacts, modern text messages and graphic, Web sites and social activities, protection laws related to child abuse and domestic violence, funding opportunities for foreign training so that members of the exchange experiences and learn about the latest developments in this social area. Zain is going to expand and upgrade its channels of communication during the coming period in all the states of Sudan.​

Initiative of the Ideal Mother​

Zain, through the vocational/professional training project, is targeting to train as many of PWD​  to depend on themselves and enable them earn a living. Training courses covered Carpentry, aluminum and food processing. The number of beneficiaries from this initiative so far is about 90 disabled.​

Ramadan Breakfasting​

Ramadan is the month of mercy , which is always fine with Zain. Zain always qualify its words with practical deeds, and maintains the taste of sweetness on the tongues of fasters in the different sectors of society (students hostels, hospitals, prisons. public roads and people with special needs, in addition to accompanying entertainment programs. A total of 200 thousand meals was offered so far.​

Disaster Prevention​

Abukarshola : interaction of Zain with the natural or security disasters, the Company sent convoy of trucks carrying humanitarian relief to support affected people in the area Abukarshola, state of North Kordofan. This relief contained medical equipment, mattresses and Foodstuffs. The Company has also sent relief to other areas in Blue Nile and South Kordofan. 
During this month, Zain has taken part in the relief operations with respect to people affected by the wave of floods and recent rains that hit large parts of Khartoum state, especially the area east of the Blue Nile in the villages of Marabie Sharif, Al-Jiref and Elhuda. A group of Zain employees distributed breakfasts meals to those affected in the days of Ramadan, in addition to the distribution of the 1000 tents for those who lost their homes and in west of Omdurman​

Culture​

Based on the role of Zain in encouraging and enhancing Arts in the Sudanese society and the Arab world, the Company valued the principle of loyalty and appreciation for creative Sudanese in various fields. The Sudanese Mobile phone Company ( Zain) launched the Scientific Award in the name of the Sudanese Novelist Eltayeb Salih , which became a cultural event that everyone is expecting in February each year. It is now in its fourth anniversary, new arrangements were being made so that the coming events will honored by writers from the Arab and African world . 
Zain is also sponsoring a number of cultural centers such as the Center of Rashid Diab and Sudanese Writers Union and the Symposium of Abdullah Tayeb. The Company also sponsored a number of cultural forums and clubs (35 events for Rashid Diab Centre and 15 symposiums for Abdullah Al –Tayeb to preserve the cultural heritage of the Arabic language)​
