Disabled
Because they represent an important segment of society, the Sudanese Mobile phone Company (Zain) paid a special attention to the disabled through the initiatives and contributions reflected in the prominent design of services for the disabled with a reduction of 50% in value of text messaging and voice services, and the launch of laboratory for training deaf on the methods of communication, Paralympics (Olympics tournament for Disabled) in collaboration with the Dall Group to get them to the Olympics in Brazil in 2016, Also support was given to the Organization of Bin Jumooh for people with special needs and other initiatives to the disabled segment.
Water projects in different States of Sudan
Access to drinking water is still a challenge in some areas of Sudan. According to UNICEF estimates, 40% of the population in Sudan have no access to safe drinking water. The Millennium Development Goals aims at reducing the proportion of the population who do not have access to sustainable sources of safe drinking water and basic sanitation requirements. It is well known that water is essential to maintain stability, fight poverty, prevent diseases and ensure food security.
Lack of access to clean water is a major factor in child mortality - Sudan has a mortality rate of 103 deaths per 1,000 live births, a rate approaching twice the global average of 57 deaths per 1,000 live births. To address this urgent need Zain Sudan in the year 2012, drilled 10 wells in the Red Sea state, aiming at improving the lives of 16,750 persons. Solar energy is used to pump the water out of these wells. Zain established a complete water plant for the village of Morkah in the Northern State and 10 water pumps in the State of North Kordofan and an electric generator for the water plant in the village of Kukaya Almonjur in West Darfur and water tower in the village of Wagar in Kassala State and implemented Alajafil water project in North Kordofan, which aims to improve the lives of 10 000 people in the regions.
Graduate Training
Because Zain is aware of its leading role in the training and development of young people to enjoy a working life, especially with the increasing number of graduates, the company launched in October 2009, a full year graduate training Initiative in the Department of Customer Services. Zain is keen to sustain this initiative by adopting the highest degree of transparency and equality. The total number of beneficiaries from the project is 3000 graduates. Zain is keen to allocate, annually, a significant proportion for people of special needs.
Family and Child Protection Unit
Zain has been sponsoring and supporting Family and Child Protection since 2009 in partnership with the Family and Child Protection Police. The partnership contract include technical and medical support, awareness and training. The technical support represent the use of information and communications technology to establish Zain integrated information Center and provide the servers for the interconnection between three police units in in the capital, as well as to support the operation and raise the efficiency of the toll-free number (9696) to receive inquiries and complaints, with talks outnumbered the 200 thousand conversation since its inception in February 2009.
The health support is to provide medical instruments, devices and equipment, especially for the processing of Forensic medicine clinics of the Family and child Protection Unit,. and support awareness programs and campaigns across Zain advertising , through multiple channels of contacts, modern text messages and graphic, Web sites and social activities, protection laws related to child abuse and domestic violence, funding opportunities for foreign training so that members of the exchange experiences and learn about the latest developments in this social area. Zain is going to expand and upgrade its channels of communication during the coming period in all the states of Sudan.
Initiative of the Ideal Mother
Zain, through the vocational/professional training project, is targeting to train as many of PWD to depend on themselves and enable them earn a living. Training courses covered Carpentry, aluminum and food processing. The number of beneficiaries from this initiative so far is about 90 disabled.
Ramadan Breakfasting
Ramadan is the month of mercy , which is always fine with Zain. Zain always qualify its words with practical deeds, and maintains the taste of sweetness on the tongues of fasters in the different sectors of society (students hostels, hospitals, prisons. public roads and people with special needs, in addition to accompanying entertainment programs. A total of 200 thousand meals was offered so far.
Disaster Prevention
Abukarshola : interaction of Zain with the natural or security disasters, the Company sent convoy of trucks carrying humanitarian relief to support affected people in the area Abukarshola, state of North Kordofan. This relief contained medical equipment, mattresses and Foodstuffs. The Company has also sent relief to other areas in Blue Nile and South Kordofan.
During this month, Zain has taken part in the relief operations with respect to people affected by the wave of floods and recent rains that hit large parts of Khartoum state, especially the area east of the Blue Nile in the villages of Marabie Sharif, Al-Jiref and Elhuda. A group of Zain employees distributed breakfasts meals to those affected in the days of Ramadan, in addition to the distribution of the 1000 tents for those who lost their homes and in west of Omdurman
Culture
Based on the role of Zain in encouraging and enhancing Arts in the Sudanese society and the Arab world, the Company valued the principle of loyalty and appreciation for creative Sudanese in various fields. The Sudanese Mobile phone Company ( Zain) launched the Scientific Award in the name of the Sudanese Novelist Eltayeb Salih , which became a cultural event that everyone is expecting in February each year. It is now in its fourth anniversary, new arrangements were being made so that the coming events will honored by writers from the Arab and African world .
Zain is also sponsoring a number of cultural centers such as the Center of Rashid Diab and Sudanese Writers Union and the Symposium of Abdullah Tayeb. The Company also sponsored a number of cultural forums and clubs (35 events for Rashid Diab Centre and 15 symposiums for Abdullah Al –Tayeb to preserve the cultural heritage of the Arabic language)
